The fabulous Gwyl Crime Cymru Festival was back online this year and I was delighted to be involved in the Emerald Crime event with John Banville and Brian McGilloway, two of my favourite writers whose knowledge of the craft is endlessly fascinating.

With the wonderful Catriona Cox at the helm, we discussed genre and whether we’re all just storytellers then our first question was about our tips for new writers – mine is just keep writing, Brian’s similar: make sure you start the next book as soon as you start sending out the first one, and read as much as possible.

And the fabulous John Banville quoted Cato the Censor: Rem tene, verbum sequentur. Grasp the object, the words will follow. So very very true.

You can watch our online event here:

Sophia A Jackson, chaired this #SoAatHome industry insider event on how writers can make the most of London Book Fair.

Panellists included LBF director Gareth Rapley and authors Joseph Coelho, Margaret Skea and Sam Blake, but with her Vanessa hat on as the SoA’s new Management Committee Chair. Lots of valuable tips and insights on how writers can use their time effectively whilst at London Book Fair.

It was such a joy to chat to the fabulous Nadine Matheson for an ‘Afternoon Tea with…’ session recently where we discussed creative routine and work!

These online events are hosted by the Society of Authors as part of the SoA @ Home series and are free to attend.

‘Grab a cuppa and get to know best-selling crime writer and the new chair of the Society of Author’s Management Committee, Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin (Sam Blake). Vanessa will be in conversation with Nadine Matheson’

All online events are recorded and available to watch back at a later date over on the SoA’s Vimeo channel, where you will discover lots of useful and informative information so do check them out at: https://vimeo.com/thesocietyofauthors

What a fabulous fun evening I had on the Six O’ Clock Show! I’ve always wanted to get dinner served up to me on TV, and Jolene Cox’s four cheese ravioli was absolutely delicious!

Brian Dowling and Katja Mia are brilliant hosts, we talked explosions and research and the music I listen to when I’m writing. It was also wonderful to share the sofa with the fantastic Vicki Notaro, author of Reality Check.
